Mandatory card check at the Airport

Out of all our payment methods, when it comes to online payments, credit card payments are the most convenient. If you booked your ticket online, make sure that the card holder is a member of the travelling party as he/she is required to present the card that was used to purchase the ticket online at all relevant airport check-in counters. This process is known as the "MANDATORY PLASTIC CHECK" and is performed to ensure your safety against credit card fraud. Therefore, please not that failing to adhere with this requirement will result in DENIED BOARDING.

However If you have chosen Visa or MasterCard for payment, and ‘Verified by Visa’ or ‘MasterCard® SecureCode™’ security feature is enabled by your card company, then the aforesaid verification processes will not be required.

SriLankan Airlines also gives you the opportunity to purchase a ticket online for your loved-ones even when you are not among the travelling party. In such cases, you only need to follow the authenticity verification process of the Airline as defined below.


Regulations for card owners who purchase tickets online and not in travelling party

If you book a ticket online for your loved one, please follow the below instructions.

The card holder must call over in person at any SriLankan Airlines office only during office hours at least 24 hours prior to departure of the passenger(s) and present the following documents to complete the verification process.

  • Cards used for the transaction
  • Original and Copy of the Passport (signature page) or National Identity Card of the card holder
  • Copies of the Passports of the passengers
  • Completed Release and Indemnity Form, Card holders are advice to sign the form ONLY in the presence of a SriLankan Airline’s staff or a nominated staff member of the Airline.

After the documents have been verified and approved, Srilankan Airlines shall update your booking reference to travel without the card holder.

SriLankan Airlines shall have the right to reject acceptance and deny boarding in the event the aforesaid processes are not followed in a timely manner and SriLankan Airlines shall not be liable for any direct or indirect losses due to such denial of boarding.
