  • One small camera and/or one pair of binoculars
  • 01 Cabin Bag 22”x15”x8” (55x38x20cm) containing infant's food for consumption in flight together with infant's toiletries and disposable items such as nappies weight not to exceed 11  lb (5 kg)
  • One infant's carrying basket or fully collapsible stroller/pushchair (could be carried only if space available in Cabin. If not, as checked baggage)

Cabin baggage limitations are extremely important to minimize the risk of injury to passengers and crew. Any overweight cabin bag shall be retrieved at the boarding gate and subject to an excess baggage fee.

Mobility Aids

Passengers who need assistance from their mobility aid will be allowed to carry free of charge. (Conditions apply).
Large or heavy items (e.g. wheelchairs) may need to be carried as checked baggage. Please advise your requirements at the time of booking in order to ensure special handling arrangements at airport/s.

Electronic Equipment

The use of mobile telephones, portable televisions, CD players, radios and other similar electronic equipment are prohibited as they can interfere with the aircraft's navigational equipment. There is no restriction on the use of other items such as personal stereos, electronic calculators or hearing aids.

Precautionary Methods

Please carry all valuables with you when you leave the aircraft at transit stops, and be sure that you have all your belongings, including overhead luggage, when you disembark at your final destination.

Charges related to special items

Golfing Equipment

Passengers travelling in Business/Economy Class are allowed 01 set of Golfing equipment with a maximum weight of 15kgs /10kgs respectively in addition to the Commercial allowance of baggage.
Weight 15 kg which will be charged for 6 kg as excess baggage.
The Golf kit can be included in the Free Baggage Allowance and whatever the overweight shall be charged as excess baggage.
Anyhow the passenger is given the opportunity to pay for the least chargeable weight whichever is less.

Snow Skiing Equipment

01 set of Snow Skiing Equipment is permitted on board which is subjected to a charge of 3 kg as excess baggage irrespective of the total weight.
If the equipment is included in the Free Baggage Allowance, any overweight shall be charged on standard excess baggage rate or the special rate whichever is less.
If more than one set is carried, normal excess baggage charges will apply for the extra set/s.

Diving Equipment

Diving Equipment can be included in the Free Baggage Allowance. Any overweight shall be assessed at the normal excess baggage rate.
Additional equipment shall be charged for excess baggage for the full weight.
Note: Diving equipment consists of diving suits, flippers, socks, shoes, masks, snorkel, lamp with bulb, battery disconnected, oxygen tank (empty) and regulator.

Windsurfer/Surfboard Equipment

 Any one of these items can be included in the Free Baggage Allowance and shall be charged at the normal excess baggage rate.
Additional equipment shall be charged for excess baggage for the full weight.
Note: Windsurfing equipment consists of the board, boom and sail mast.
Bicycles
The weight of the bicycle can be included in the Free Baggage Allowance and any overweight shall be charged as excess baggage at the normal excess baggage rate.
Acceptance is subject to;

  • The handle bar fixed sideways (at a 90 degree angle) or removed and attached to the frame
  • The pedals removed or turned inwards
  • The bicycle itself is wrapped with a transparent plastic sheet

Unacceptable as Baggage (The passenger should not include in his/her baggage:

  • Articles which do not constitute baggage as defined above.
  • Articles which are likely to endanger the aircraft or persons or property on board the aircraft.
  • Articles, the carriage of which is prohibited by applicable laws, regulations or orders of any state to be flown from, to or over.
  • Articles which, in the opinion of Carrier, are unsuitable for carriage by reason of their weight, size or character such as sharp items/objects and/or any irregular metal objects which is not properly packed over 5 kg of weight.
  • Live animals except dogs, cats, household birds and other pets will be accepted for carriage subject to Carrier's regulations.
  • Firearms and ammunition other than for hunting and sporting purposes.
  • Fragile or perishable items, money, jewellery, precious metals, silverware, negotiable papers, securities or other valuables, business documents, passports and other identification documents or samples.

Other rules governing treatment of baggage at stopover points,

Passengers holding two separate documents (tickets) for the onward journey are advised that your baggage can be interlined (tagged to the final destination) from all airports where Srilankan Airlines flies except Indian destinations other than Mumbai & New Delhi
Baggage shall not be interlined to Domestic points within the same country;

Pets

Domesticated animals such as cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, and ornamental fish can be accepted for carriage as checked baggage. Animals of an unusual size or nature such as monkeys, snakes etc. cannot be carried as checked baggage. They shall only be processed through SriLankan Cargo.
Except for Service Animals "seeing-eye/hearing dogs" no other animals or pets can be accepted in the aircraft cabin. Such pets are only allowed in the Business and Economy Class Cabin along with the accompanied passenger free of charge.
Any other pet other than a Service Animal (seeing-eye/hearing dog"), the total weight of the pet and the container along with any food items should be charged at the normal excess baggage rate irrespective of the Free Baggage Allowance.

Liability

Acceptance of pets for carriage is subject to passenger assuming full responsibility for the animal. SriLankan Airlines shall not be liable for injury, loss, delay, sickness or death of the animal/bird in the event it is refused entry into transit points and/or the destination.

Service Animals (Seeing Eye/Hearing Dogs)
Service Animals (Seeing Eye/Hearing Dogs) can only accompany passengers whose vision or hearing is impaired and s/he is actually dependent on the dog.
Such a dog is permitted in the Business and Economy Class cabin at no extra charge. However, IATA Live Animal regulations shall apply for the carriage of the animal.

Prior to travel

Notify SriLankan Airlines at least 48 hours before departure
Check-in for the flight at least 3 hours prior to departure
Passenger must be prepared to provide credible verbal assurance that the animal is providing a service to assist with a disability
Must ensure that the accompanying dog will not need to relieve itself during the flight or that the passenger can adequately manage the dog’s waste without creating any health and sanitation issue on the flight. Must bring whatever absorbent or other material required for this purpose.
Must ensure that the passenger prepare the dog for the flight by exercising the dog and limiting its fluid intake before the flight

Note: 1
The Service Animal, however, cannot be seated where it may obstruct aisle or emergency exit area or affect leg space of the passenger seated adjoining. If the Service Animal cannot be accommodated at the seat location along with passenger, due to Service Animal is disruptive or too large to fit under the seat or at the passenger's feet without encroaching on another passenger's space or protruding into the aisle, it will need to travel in a kennel (provided by the passenger) in the cargo hold free of charge. The kennel must meet IATA kennel and size requirements for the animal to ensure temperature restrictions are met for the safety of the Service Animal. Only one Service Animal is permitted to book and travel on a flight. Always check with the Ticketing Agent.

Note: 2
Since SriLankan Airlines has a limitation in certain aircraft cargo holds in accommodating Live Animals due to heating conditions, in order to avoid disappointment, it is extremely important that the Service Animal is booked within the given stipulated time lines in case the Service Animal needs to be load in the cargo hold.

Liability

SriLankan Airlines will not be responsible for the health and wellbeing of the Service Animal while it is accompanying the passenger in the cabin. The owner must assume all risks of injury, sickness and/or death to the dog before, during and after the flight.

Health Requirements

The passenger is fully responsible to comply with customs and other government requirements of the destination and any transit points along with valid vaccination certificates, import/export/transit permits etc... is a must to be presented at the time of reservation. In the event the dog is refused entry into any country involved in the passenger's journey due to documents not being in-order, the airline has no liability.
Passengers having onward connections should get confirmation from the onward airline(s) that the Service Animal will be accommodated for beyond travel as SriLankan Airlines only holds responsibility in carrying the Service Animal on UL operated sector(s).

Conditions of Acceptance

  • The dog must be properly muzzled and harnessed. It must be well behaved, inoffensive, clean and odourless and the leash of the dog must be secured to the owner’s seatbelt at all times during flight.
  • It is not allowed to move in the cabin and is expected to be seated near the passenger. Absorbent material should be placed under the dog so as to prevent soiling of the aircraft floor.

Charges

Service Animals (Seeing Eye/Hearing Dogs) are accepted for carriage in the aircraft cabin or hold free of charge.

Bulky Baggage in Passenger Seats

We have the facility of allowing a maximum weight of 75 kg to be carried as seat baggage. Please check with your Ticketing agent for applicable fare and conditions of carriage.
