Credit Card Check for Online Bookings are Mandatory

When booking online, note that the credit card holder must be a member of the travelling party. Therefore he/she must adhere to the "MANDATORY PLASTIC CHECK" at all relevant airport check-in counters by presenting the credit card he/she used to purchase the ticket online. Failing to adhere with the Mandatory Plastic Check will result in DENIED BOARDING.

SriLankan has also introduced the pre-authorised Third Party Purchases Scheme for online bookings. The necessary information on this scheme is given below. In such cases, the credit card holder must complete the requested Authenticity Verification Process of the airline within 4 days prior to departure. If the Verification Process requirements have been met by the credit card holder in a timely manner, the airline will pre-authorise the itinerary of the passenger in order for him / her to travel without the presence of the credit card holder.

When you are following the Online Booking Process, at the Payment stage, you will be prompted

with the question The Credit Card holder is travelling on this booking? Yes No

As shown above, if you are using your credit card to purchase the ticket on behalf of your loved one, please select the option "NO"

Once the option "NO" has been selected, the following guidelines to complete the airlines authenticity verification process will automatically emerge on the same page:

  • The Release & Indemnity Download the 'Release & Indemnity' here
  • Copy (both sides) of the credit card which was used to purchase the ticket (do not disclosure the CVC number)
  • Copy of the Card Holders passport, National Identity card or the Driving License

Please note: If the authenticity verification process is not completed 4 days prior to departure by you (i.e. the credit card holder), your loved one will be denied boarding when he / she attempts to travel without the airlines pre-authorised approval.
